Idea

The idea for the beehive can be obtained from Zeda after successfully harvesting one sunflower. To research the idea, 55,000 total prosperity is required, as well as 4 sunflowers of any quality, and 12 wood.

Crafting

The beehive costs 20 wood and 20 plant fiber to craft.

You can produce honey using a beehive. If placed within range of a flowering plant, the honey produced will be honey from that plant. If too many differing types of flowering plants are within range of the beehive, or no flowering plants are, then the hive will produce wild honey.

Contribution

Contribution pointes earned seem to scale based on the price of the crop used to produce the honey. Crops with a higher base price will yield more valuable honey. The most valuable honey is Pineapple honey, with Pumpkin honey coming in second, and Butternut Squash honey in third.

Quality

It is currently unknown what factors affect the quality of the honey.

Range

Bees have a surprisingly large range. And obstacles (fences, canals, other crops) don't block the range. You can see the range of the beehive when you place it. Any blooming plants within this range will affect the honey type coming out of it. Too much of a mixture of plants will cause the honey to go wild (e.g. I had a hive between sunflowers and sesame, and would consistently get wild honey from it). But it also seems that the flowers within range of the hive need to just be mostly one crop type, not completely one crop type.

Proximity

Nearer plants to the beehive do not have priority.

Rate

The base rate of honey production is currently unknown, and seems to be affected by a number of factors, such as plant knowledge and accessories.

Delays

There seems to be a significant delay between when the honey type is determined and when the honey is ready to be harvested. There also seems to be a delay between when the hive is reset (placed or harvested) and when the honey type is determined. These two delay times are currently known to exist, but values are unknown.

Effect on Crops

Crops that are within range of a beehive have a 10% chance to have their harvest doubled (this does not stack with multiple hives),[1] and display a beehive icon when hovering over the crop's square while holding seeds or fertilizer.
