Farming

From Roots of Pacha Wiki

Farming.png Farming is a game mechanic in Roots of Pacha.

It is an idea that can be developed through Igrork.png Igrork. When the Player wakes up on the 1st day of Spring, our adopted grandparent Igrork.png Igrork encourages us to discover plants by picking seeds from fully grown plants. Seeds picked from a plant are stored in the seed pouch and can be selected to plant in a farm-able field.

At the beginning of a new game there is only a Handaxe.png handaxe to clear debris in the fields and till a spot for planting, and a Waterskin.png Waterskin to water the soil. As the Player progresses, tools and farming methods can be upgraded.

Fields

Fields are the area that can be used for farming as well as ranching. There are 2 fields in the Village. The Roots of Pacha Farming Planner images below show how many squares of space there is to use in each field for farming, placing Farm Buildings, or placing Processors.

Field 1 is adjacent to Igrork.png Igrork and Maeri.png Maeri's home and only has debris that can be cleared with a Handaxe.png handaxe.

Field 2 is a larger area South of Field 1. Some debris in Field 2 requires upgraded tools to remove.

Bonus Field

There is also a Bonus Field unlocked towards the end-game. See the Jungle.png Jungle page for more information.

Plant Knowledge

Plant Knowledge.png

Plant Knowledge is obtained from every harvest. From level 2 in Plant Knowledge details about the plant will be shown in the journal, such as seasonality and growth time. Plant Knowledge applies to each individual type of plant. With every level up in Plant knowledge, there is a higher chance that a harvest will be higher quality.

The first level of harvest quality is the plant's Wild form. But the next level of quality, Domesticated quality, changes the look of both the harvested produce as well as the plant it grows on.

Once a plant is Domesticated it will produce higher quality harvests as Plant Knowledge is gained. A Domesticated plant can produce a neutral quality harvest, Obsidian quality harvest, Copper quality, or the highest quality Bronze. The level of quality that the harvest is will be reflected when that harvest is used as an ingredient. For example, Obsidian quality tomato processed in a press will produce Obsidian quality Tomato Juice. Higher quality harvests yield more stamina when consumed and more contribution points when donated to the Clan.

Plant Nursery

Plant Nursery.gif

The first time a plant is harvested, Igrork.png Igrork will have an idea to make the Plant Nursery.png Plant Nursery. Once the Plant Nursery is built, Igrork will exchange seeds of any discovered plants for Contribution.png 20 Contribution Points.

Or, Exchange Contribution Points for Saplings of any Trees.

The seeds available at the Plant Nursery are only what's currently in season.

Trees, however, are available year-round.

Trivia

  • In the pre-release version of the game wild plants also provided 1 wild crop harvest in addition to seeds, but this feature was cut for balancing purposes.
