Caves
The Caves are an extensive system of rooms filled with puzzles, mysteries, secret powers, and the source of many essential resources.
The caves become available to be explored starting from the 4th day of Spring at the Forest Cave entrance. Until reaching the Room: Owl's Preamble, all rooms can be accessed by just the starting handaxe but from then on, upgraded tools will be needed to reach further rooms.
As the Caves are explored, more entrances from the caves can be unlocked as well as warp points throughout the Caves and beyond.
Many essential materials needed in the game can be found only in the Caves.

Cave Areas
The Caves are a system of rooms with several distinct areas.
The first area entered through the Forest Cave Entrance are rooms of Gray Rock walls. This area is known as the Forest Tunnel and Soaking Caverns area, and referred to in the game files as the "Air Cave" area.
Flint can be found beyond the Glyptodon statue. |
The next distinct area connects with both the Beach Cave Entrance and Savanna Cave Entrance. The area has brown rock walls covered in green moss and vines. This area is known as the Wild Grotto area, and referred to in the game files as the "Earth Cave" area.
|
The next distinct area does not connect with any outside entrances. The area has light brown sandy rock walls and is known as the Rocky Burrow area, but referred to in the game files as the "Sand Cave" area.
|
The final area of the Caves has no outside entrances and has dark blue rock walls adorned with colorful crystals. This area is known as Pacha's Hollow, but referred to in the game files as the "Crystal Cave" area.

Totems
Totems are magical animal beings that created the puzzles of the Caves as a test. Passing the totem's trial will unlock further cave exploration, new kinds of cave materials, and a new ability to use in the caves.
Each totem has its own room with a giant statue of the being. Hints can be found in Cave Paintings around the rooms leading up to the totems, or by talking to Glyp, To, or Don.
