Fishing
Fishing is a game mechanic in Roots of Pacha.
Fishing can be done from the first day in-game with your
Handaxe tool at multiple locations. In time Players can unlock new tools to fish with, and different Aquatic Animals available to catch, as well as new methods to fish.
How to Fish
To fish: Select your tools inventory and interact with any body of water while holding a fishing tool.
Hover over any shadow and stay over the shadow to slowly increase the fishing bar.
If the fishing bar disappears and you see a "!" icon then move away until the "!" icon disappears.
At any time you can interact on the fish shadow you want to catch but the chance of catching it will be more likely if you increase the fishing bar to full. When the bar is completely full it will disappear and say: "CATCH NOW!" this is a 100% catch.
When a Player catches Aquatic Animals their knowledge of that specific Aquatic Animal will increase. Increased knowledge level will reduce the fishing bar needed to catch, and also increase the chance of catching a better quality.

Factors Affecting Fishing
Weather and Time
Players can fish at any time, but the current time of day will affect what fish are available. The times of day that affect fishing are:
| Morning | starts at 6 (6am) |
|---|---|
| Noon | starts at 12 (noon) |
| Afternoon | starts at 14 (2pm) |
| Night | starts at 20 (8pm) |
The fish affected by weather are:
Redeye,
Rock,
Smallmouth, and
Wingy.
They can only be caught during Rainy weather.
Fishing Difficulty
The Difficulty of catching any Aquatic Animals is influenced by which fishing tool the Player is using.
Difficulty is equal to the number of segments on the bar (as well as affecting how quickly the fish moves and how often you have to back off). Difficulty is reduced by 1 at knowledge level 3 and reduced by 2 at knowledge level 5, but cannot be below 2 (so, for example, with knowledge 3 and a harpoon, both Tier 1 and Tier 2 fish have 2 bar segments).
Fish rarity bonuses scale the chance from Min (0 rarity bonus) to Max (30 rarity bonus).
| Fish Tier | Difficulty | Outside Chance | Cave Chance | ||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Min | Max | Min | Max | ||
Handaxe | |||||
| 1 | 3 | 75% | 65% | 65% | 55% |

Line Fishing
Line Fishing becomes available after completing
Tayta's
Line Fishing (Idea). The dock is located on the southern part of the
Mangrove Island, just right from where the wild
Grapes grow.
Interact with the boat at the end of the dock to sail around until you find a spot where the fish are active. Interact with the active fish spot to select 1 of any Bug from your inventory to use as bait. When a fish hooks onto your line, press and hold to reel it in. Be mindful of the tension bar: if it turns red, release the reel to avoid breaking the line. Reeling can continue safely when the tension is in the green or yellow zones.
If your line breaks you can fish in the spot again but you will need another Bug from your inventory to use as bait.
If you successfully reel in a fish then you will be unable to fish in that spot until the next day. There are 5 spots in total that you can catch fish at per day.
